Khachaturov at the Institute of the Administration of the National Economy, attached to AzSSR Council of Ministers" -- boldface as published] L. Davidyan, deputy head of the Department of Construction and Urban Management, Azerbaijan Communist Party Central Committee: During recent 5-year plans, regarding the activation of housing, preschool institutions, and public-health facilities, the indicators for the specific capital investments for the autonomous oblast were considerably higher than the average for the republic and for its regions. A. Ayriyan, AzSSR minster of timber and wood-processing industry: I would also like to say a few words about our branch. It is represented by a large-scale furniture factory with a high technical level, that has been provided with new highly-productive equipment that has been produced in our own country and that has been imported. During the past 17 years, the capacity has almost quintupled. T. Khachaturov: How are things in the oblast concerning hard-surface roads? A. Pogosova, deputy department chief, AzSSR Gosplan: In past years, transportation and communication means developed dynamically in the oblast. A railroad line with all the management necessary for operation was activated in the city of Stepanakert. Accelerated development, as compared with the republic as a whole, occurred in motor vehicles: there are 26.3 motor vehicles per 1000 inhabitants of the oblast, as compared with the average of 17.5 for the republic as a whole. All the rayon centers have been linked with the republic's highways by roads with an improved surface, and the central farmsteads on kolkhozes and sovkhozes have hard-surface motor roads. It is planned to redesign motor columns in Mardakert and Martuni, to build a motor vehicles terminal in Stepanakert, a number of motor roads, and reinforced-concrete overpasses, to carry out the intensive conversion of motor roads to a hard surface, etc. It is also planned to carry out a series of measures to achieve the further development of communication means, primarily the reinforcement of the material-technical base of oblast television. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Comparable Indicators of Social Development (Table in full) AzSSR NKAO USSR ArSSR 1.
